about me

a few words about who i am

I have been thinking about turning my hand to writing for over twenty-five years, to write about my life experiences, my ideas, the many challenges I have faced, the numerous changes of setting I have endured, and the multiple experiences I have been subject to.

My life might be defined as an amalgam of short stories, starting with the uniqueness of each one of these experience-based chapters and followed by the lack of continuity between them.

I was born in El Salvador to a so-called distinguished family. My father was a career diplomat and my mother was the daughter of an eminent Salvadorian physician of international repute.

Not long after I was born I left my country due to the professional requirements of my father’s career and returned, still a child, for four years due to my mother’s failing health during which I was placed in a convent school. I left the country after her death only to return again much later for two and a half years before I got married.

The multiplicity of cities and countries my life has taken me through since childhood is extensive, these wanderings affording me experiences that amounted to much learning. One might say that this has been the cornerstone to the person that I am. I have lived in the United States of America in numerous locations for a number of decades – prior to which I lived in nine different countries on four continents – before moving from New York to Florida, on to New Hampshire and then Massachusetts for work, to then go back to Florida before moving on to California in search of answers and then finally to move here to Texas.

The stories that I want to tell aren’t just narratives of my experiences but rather tales of survival, of resilience, of refusing to bend before adversity, of achieving goals, of overcoming solitudes, and also of being able to appreciate the gifts that these experiences have handed me.

The narrative might be classified in different ways; some of it cultural, some of it intellectual, other parts more about spiritual growth but all of it existential. It is about having the capacity to observe all that life has to offer and to be able to successfully navigate these elements without being subdued and without regret.

And so here are some of my stories.
